A high speed, microcomputer based, Fibre Channel compatible and fault tolerant information processing and mass storage system especially suited for information servers and application servers. A unique and extremely versatile system architecture, including a dual loop arbitrated, Fibre Channel capable, multiple-fault tolerant, hot-swappable mass storage disk array, permits combinations of servers and mass storage arrays which can be tailored for a wide variety of applications and which can be configured with emphasis on the system characteristics such as redundancy, speed, processing capability, storage capability, and the like, as desired. A unique backplane and/or midplane arrangement for connecting the system components allows for easy and, in most cases, on-line field upgrading and/or service and at the same time provides for the very efficient cooling of components, particularly those such as disk drives which tend to produce a lot of heat.
L'invention concerne un système de traitement d'informations et de mémoire de grande capacité rapide, basé sur micro-ordinateur, compatible avec des canaux en fibres et tolérant les pannes, particulièrement adapté à des serveurs d'informations et à des serveurs d'applications. Une architecture système unique et extrêmement polyvalente comprenant un réseau de disques de stockage à grande capacité arbitré par double boucle, capable de fonctionner sur des canaux de fibres, tolérant des erreurs multiples, à changement rapide, permet des combinaisons de serveurs et de réseaux de stockage à grande capacité pouvant être adaptées à une large variété d'applications et pouvant être configurées avec emphase sur les caractéristiques système telles que la redondance, la vitesse, la capacité de traitement, la capacité de stockage et analogue, à volonté. Un agencement unique de fond de panier et/ou de milieu de panier pour la connexion des composants du système permet une amélioration et/ou un service facile et dans la plupart des cas en clientèle en ligne, et permet en même temps le refroidissement très efficace des composants, notamment de ceux tels que les unités de disque tendant à produire beaucoup de chaleur.
