An ending apparatus for a log ladder (2), wherein the log ladder (2) sorts, feeds and sequentially indexes logs (54) along a longitudinal array of laterally extending adjacent log cradles (4, 8, 12), having, in the log cradles (4, 8, 12), exclusive of a downstream-most log cradle (12) in the longitudinal array, log translating means (64) for laterally translating the logs (54), when the logs (54) are in the log cradles (4, 8) exclusive of the downstream-most log cradle (12), so as to abut one end of the logs (54) against an edge (72) of the log ladder (2), wherein the log translating means (64) has selectively actuable rollers (64) mounted within a lower vertice of the log cradles (4, 8), wherein the selectively actuable rollers (64) are mounted in lateral array and the rollers (64) are generally hourglass-shaped so that in longitudinal cross section the rollers (64) have a longitudinal profile generally matching the longitudinal profile of a longitudinal cross section of the log cradles (4, 8), and wherein the log translating means (6, 10) further has first sensing means cooperating with the selectively actuable rollers (64) for sensing the presence of the logs (54) in the log cradles (4, 8) and triggering selective rotation of the selectively actuable rollers (64) whereby said logs (54) are ended against the edge (72) of the log ladders (2), and wherein the log ladder further has second sensing means (62), cooperating with lifting and culling means (6, 10, 14) corresponding to the log cradles (4, 8, 12), for delayed triggering of the lifting and culling means when the logs (54) are held in the log cradles so as to increase dwell time of the logs on the log translating means (64).
Appareil d'extrémité pour échelle à rondins (2), laquelle (2) trie, envoie et positionne séquentiellement des rondins (54) le long d'un groupe longitudinal de berceaux à rondins adjacents (4, 8, 12) s'étendant latéralement, comprenant, à l'exception du berceau le plus en aval (12), des moyens de translation (64) de rondins conçus pour translater latéralement les rondins (54) lorsque ces derniers se trouvent dans lesdits berceaux (4, 8, 12), sauf dans le berceau le plus en aval (12), de sorte qu'une extrémité des rondins (54) vienne buter contre un bord (72) de l'échelle à rondins (2). Le moyen de translation de rondins (64) comprend des rouleaux (64) pouvant être actionnés de manière sélective, montés en groupe latéral dans une extrémité inférieure desdits berceaux (4, 8) à rondins et présentant généralement la forme d'un sablier, de sorte que, dans leur section longitudinale, lesdits rouleaux ont un profil longitudinal coïncidant généralement avec le profil longitudinal d'une section longitudinale desdits berceaux (4, 8). Ledit moyen de translation de rondins (6, 10) présente également des moyens de détection coopérant avec lesdits rouleaux (64) à actionnement sélectif, pour détecter la présence de rondins (54) dans le berceau à rondins (4, 8) et pour déclencher la rotation sélective des rouleaux (64) à actionnement sélectif, lesdits rondins venant ensuite contre le bord (72) des échelles à rondins (2). L'échelle à rondins (2) comprend un deuxième moyen de détection coopérant avec le moyen de levage et de mesurage (6, 10, 14) correspondant aux berceaux à rondins (4, 8, 12), pour le déclenchement retardé du moyen de levage et de mesurage lorsque les rondins (54) sont maintenus dans les berceaux, de sorte que le temps de séjour des rondins sur les moyens de translation de rondins (64) soit augmenté.
