A modular exponentiator is adapted to receive a first communicated signal and derive a second signal therefrom by computation of a modular exponentiation of the form b ~ mod n based on the first signal. The modular exponentiator divides the modular exponentiation according to the Chinese remainder theorem into first and second portions respectively having modulus values p and q of approximately half of an original modulus value n of the modular exponentiation. Each portion of the modular exponentiation is factored into respective pluralities of smaller modular exponentiations having precalculated exponent values. The respective pluralities of smaller modular exponentiations are then multiplied together to provide respective intermediate products. The intermediate products are then recombined to yield the modular exponentiation result.

Un exponentiateur modulaire est adapté afin de recevoir un premier signal et de dériver un deuxième signal à partir du premier par calcul d'une exponentiation modulaire ayant la forme b ~ mod n, basée sur le premier signal. L'exponentiateur divise le résultat de l'exponentiation modulaire selon le théorème du reste chinois en une première et une deuxième parties ayant respectivement des valeurs de module p et q, soit environ la moitié de la valeur initiale d'un module n de l'exponentiation modulaire. Chaque partie de l'exponentiation modulaire est décomposée en pluralités respectives de plus petites exponentiations dont les exposants ont des valeurs calculées à l'avance. Les pluralités respectives des plus petites exponentiations sont ensuite multipliées ensembles afin de fournir des produits intermédiaires correspondants. Ces produits intermédiaires sont ensuite recombinés afin de donner le résultat de l'exponentiation modulaire.
