A cell for the electrowinning of aluminium from alumina dissolved in a fluoride-containing molten electrolyte, comprises a non-carbon metal-based anode having an electrically conductive metallic structure. This anode structure comprises an outer part with an electrochemically active anode surface on which, during electrolysis, oxygen is anodically evolved, and which is suspended in the electrolyte substantially parallel to a facing cathode. The anode structure has one or more flow-through openings extending from the active anode surface through the metallic structure, the flow-through opening(s) being arranged for guiding a circulation of electrolyte driven by the fast escape of anodically evolved oxygen. The outer part of the anode comprises a layer that contains predominantly cobalt oxide CoO to enhance the stability of the anode.

L'invention concerne une cellule permettant l'extraction électrolytique de l'aluminium à partir d'alumine dissoute dans un électrolyte fondu contenant un fluorure, qui comprend une anode à base de métal exempt de carbone dotée d'une structure métallique électroconductrice. La structure de l'anode comprend une partie extérieure dotée d'une surface d'anode électrochimiquement active sur laquelle, pendant l'électrolyse, l'oxygène est émis par l'anode, et suspendue dans électrolyte sensiblement parallèle à une cathode opposée. La structure de l'anode comprend une ou plusieurs ouverture(s) à écoulement continu s'étendant de la surface de l'anode active à travers la structure métallique, la ou les ouverture(s) à écoulement continu étant agencée(s) afin de guider la circulation de l'électrolyte entraîné par l'échappement rapide de l'oxygène émis par l'anode. La partie extérieure de l'anode comprend une couche qui contient essentiellement un oxyde de cobalt CoO permettant d'améliorer sa stabilité.
