The invention relates to an improved high-strength nodular iron that is yet tenacious and can be easily machined and welded. The inventive iron comprises 4 to 6 % of silicon and a percentage of carbon reduced according to the carbon equivalent, not more than 0.03 % of phosphorus and 0.2 to 0.5 % of nickel. A housing (1) produced from said iron is welded with a toothed element (2) from alloyed and/or case-hardened steel.

La présente invention concerne une fonte nodulaire améliorée qui, malgré une dureté élevée, doit présenter une bonne aptitude à l'usinage et à la soudure. Ladite fonte comprend : 4 à 6 % de silicium et une proportion de carbone limitée en fonction de l'équivalent de carbone, au maximum 0,03 % de phosphore, et 0,2 à 0,5 % de nickel. Un boîtier (1) réalisé à partir de cette fonte est soudé avec une pièce d'engrenage (2) en acier allié et/ou cémenté.
