The present invention provides high strength magnesium alloys consisting essentially of 3 to 10 wt.% Zn, 0.25 to 3.0 wt.% Mn, and the balance of Mg and inevitable impurities, the high strength magnesium alloy further containing 1 to 6 wt.% Al, 0.1 to 4.0 wt.% Si, and 0.1 to 2.0 wt.% Ca, in order to provide a high strength magnesium alloy having an improved hardness and strength, and an excellent elongation at an ambient temperature. In addition, the present invention provides a method for preparing the high strength magnesium alloy characterized in that a Zn-Mn mother alloy is added to a magnesium melt by a fluxless melting method, and process conditions for working and heat-treating an obtained cast material.

L'invention concerne des alliages de magnésium haute résistance contenant essentiellement 3 à 10 % en poids de Zn, 0,25 à 3,0 % en poids de Mn, et du Mg et d'inévitables impuretés dans un rapport d'équilibre. Ledit alliage de magnésium haute résistance comporte également 1 à 6 % en poids d'Al, 0,1 à 4,0 % en poids de Si et 0,1 à 2,0 % en poids de Ca, qui lui confèrent une dureté et une résistance améliorées, ainsi que d'excellentes aptitudes à l'allongement à température ambiante. La présente invention porte également sur un procédé pour préparer ledit alliage de magnésium haute résistance, selon lequel un alliage mère Zn-Mn est additionné au magnésium fondu selon un procédé de fonte sans fondant. L'invention concerne aussi des conditions de traitement pour le façonnage et le traitement thermique d'un matériau coulé.
