ABSTRACT HIGH THROUGHPUT, HIGH UNIFORMITY FIELD EMISSION DEVICES A device for field emission spraying of metals is formed from a face plate of an electrically conductive material which is insoluble in but wettable by the metal to be sprayed. The metal is retained in a reservoir adjacent the face plate, is heated to its melting point by heat generated by passing an electric current through the face plate and is sprayed through substantially conical nozzles formed in the face plate. An extractor electrode is provided adjacent each of the conical nozzles.
