In carpet cleaning machines of the "steam cleaning" type, water is sprayed into the carpet to be subsequently extracted through a suction nozzle. This process often results in overwetting of carpets causing a bad odour and longer drying time. In this invention, I overcame this problem by first of all, converting the water spray system to a mist injection system. This greatly reduces chances of overwatering. I also control the depth to which the moisture settles in the carpet by means of a specially designed EXTRACTION CHAMBER. This EXTRACTION CHAMBER forces the mist through and above the carpet but does not allow the moisture to settle to the carpet backing. This is accomplished by a high velocity lateral movement of moisture through the carpet due to the EXTRACTION CHAMBER'S design and also due to the fact that a pressure and suction system are combined together within the EXTRACTION CHAMBER. Thus the moisture is forced to pass laterally through the carpet and then up and out to the output compartment of the EXTRACTION CHAMBER. Also, within the EXTRACTION CHAMBER, Bernoulli's Principle is used to advantage to prevent soaking down of moisture and to actually bring the dirt upward to the surface to be extracted. The application of Bernoulli's Principle results in a continual upward movement of dirt particles within the carpet pile. All these factors combined make this invention an excellent carpet cleaning tool which avoids the disadvantages of overwetting carpets.
