ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE "HIGH VELOCITY THERMAL SPRAY GUN FOR SPRAYING PLASTIC COATINGS" A high velocity, oxygen fuel ("HVOF") thermoplastic powder thermal spray gun melts and sprays a melted powder composition of thermoplastic compounds, thermoplastic/metallic composites, and thermoplastic/ceramic composites onto a substrate forming a coating on the substrate. The liquid-cooled combustion thermal spray gun provides heat to a plastic powder composition at 175° to 750°F providing flameless spraying of a subsonic or supersonic gas stream of melted powder composition. The HVOF thermoplastic coating spray gun system includes a means for providing a low temperature high velocity jet gas stream through a water cooled nozzle assembly thereby reducing and controlling the heat of the gas stream, diverting a portion of the gas stream for preheating a powdered polymer, injecting the preheated powdered polymer into the main gas stream at a downstream point in the nozzle for further high temperature heating of the polymer, providing a forced air and vacuum means in a shroud circumscribing the nozzle for cooling the melted plastic particles in flight before deposition upon a selected substrate, and applying the polymer composition to a surface to be coated.
