This invention relates to base stocks and base oils that exhibit an unexpected combination of high viscosity index (130 or greater) and a ratio of measured- to-theoretical high-shear/low-temperature viscosity at -30C or lower and the methods of making them. Specifically, the present invention relates to low- volatility / low-viscosity lubricant base stocks, lubricant base stocks and base oils, formulated lubricant compositions or functional fluids comprising these base stocks and methods of making them. More particularly, this invention relates to lubricant compositions of low-temperature flow capability and low viscosity for passenger car motor lubricants of SAE OW-XX grade (where XX = 40 or lower), methods for optimizing fuel economy using the same, and methods or processes to produce them.
Cette invention concerne des huiles de base présentant une combinaison surprenante d'indice de viscosité élevé (130 ou plus) et de rapport de cisaillement mesuré à théorique élevé /viscosité à basse température de 30 ·C ou moins, ainsi que des procédés d'obtention de ces huiles. Spécifiquement, la présente invention concerne des lubrifiants de base à faible volatilité/faible viscosité, des lubrifiants de base et des huiles de base, des compositions pour lubrifiant préparées ou des fluides fonctionnels renfermant ces produits de base et leurs procédés de fabrication. Plus particulièrement, cette invention concerne des compositions lubrifiantes conservant leur aptitude à l'écoulement et une faible viscosité à basse température, qui sont destinées à des lubrifiants pour moteurs de voitures automobiles particulières de catégorie SAE OW-XX (avec XX = 40 ou moins), des méthodes permettant d'optimiser le rendement énergétique au moyen de ces compositions, et leurs procédés de fabrication.
