ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A high voltage direct current transmission apparatus having a DC carrying line provided with a DC cable. The transmission apparatus includes voltage-limiting members connected to the DC carrying line and comprising surge diverters and diodes interconnected so that the limiting voltage level is higher for a line voltage of one of the positive and negative polarities than for a line voltage of the opposite polarity, and so that for both polarities of the line voltage, the limiting level is different from zero.
