- 18 - TITLE HIGH YIELD PULPING AND BLEACHING PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF PULP OF HIGH STRENGTH AND HIGH BRIGHTNESS FOR PAPERMAKING Inventors Michel Barbe James MacDonald Sophie Janknecht ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of producing chemi-mechanical pulps suitable for papermaking which comprises impregnating chips with a bleaching solution under conditions of pH, temperature and concentration for all chemicals to be soluble and chemically react with the lignocellulosic material, reacting these chemicals with the lignocellulosic materials for sufficient time at adequate temperature to improve brightness and lower the elastic shear modulus of the wood chips so as to improve the pulp strength, refining the chips to produce pulp, diluting and dewatering the pulp, bleaching the pulp with a bleaching solution under conditions of pH, temperature and concentration for all chemicals to be soluble and chemically react with the lignocellulosic material, diluting and dewatering the bleached pulps, and refining the bleached pulp.
