A polybenzazole fiber or film comprising a basic organic compound, in the form of a monomer or condensate, selected from among guanidines, triazoles, quinazolines, piperidines, anilines, pyridines, cyanuric acids and p- phenylenediamine, m- phenylenediamine or a mixture thereof. This fiber has such properties that the X-ray meridian diffraction half-width factor is 0.3.ordm./GPa or less, the elasticity decrement attributed to change of molecular orientation (Er) 30 GPa or less, and the rupture strength 1 GPa or greater. This fiber can be used in staple fibers, a spun yarn, a woven or knit fabric, a felt material, a composite material, a code, a rod, a fibrous sheet, a stab-proof jacket or a flak jacket.

L'invention concerne une fibre ou un film de polybenzazole, comprenant un composé organique de base, sous la forme d'un monomère ou d'un condensé, sélectionné parmi les guanidines, les triazoles, quinazolines, pipéridines, anilines, pyridines, acides cyanuriques et p-phénylènediamines, m-phénylènediamines ou leur mélange. Ladite fibre présente les propriétés suivantes: le facteur de la demi largeur de diffraction des rayons X le long du méridien est inférieur ou égal à 0,3·/GPa, le décrément d'élasticité attribué au changement d'orientation moléculaire (Er) est inférieur ou égal à 30 GPa, et la résistance à la rupture est supérieure ou égale à 1 GPa. Cette fibre peut être utilisée sous forme de fibres discontinues, de filé, d'étoffe tissée ou d'étoffe à mailles, de feutre, de matériaux composites, de corde, de tige, de couche fibreuse, de gilet résistant aux instruments tranchants, ou de gilet pare-éclats.
