The invention concerns a packaging eukaryotic cell for the production of defective infectious viruses carrying a transgene, characterised in that it is deficient in one cell function essential to its growth, in particular in the presence of a selection culture medium, the said function being capable of being restored by the expression of an exogenous sequence introduced in the cell: either with a vector carrying transcomplementing functions of packaging cells; or with a vector carrying a transgene, and enabling the selection in a selective medium of cells carrying the said exogenous sequence.

L'invention concerne une cellule eucaryote d'empaquetage pour la production de virus infectieux défectifs porteurs d'un transgène, caractérisée en ce qu'elle est déficient en une fonction cellulaire essentielle à sa croissance, notamment en présence d'un milieu de culture de sélection, ladite fonction étant susceptible d'être restaurée par l'expression d'une séquence exogène introduite dans la cellule: soit avec un vecteur porteur de fonctions transcomplémentantes des cellules d'empaquetage; soit avec un vecteur porteur du transgène, et permettant la sélection en milieu sélectif des cellules porteuses de ladite séquence exogène.
