A screen apparatus is provided for use with a conventional highway barrier of the kind consisting of a plurality of aligned concrete components, each component having a substantially vertical well adjacent one end for use in connecting the components together. Usually, the upper end of the well is unoccupied when the components have been placed into position, and this invention provides a screen apparatus utilizing the upper unoccupied ends of the wells to support upstandingwinding bars for the purpose of supporting screen units made of flexible, non- transparent material. The screen units are supported above the concrete barrier, and are in a position to interfere with direct viewing, by a passing motorist, of the area on the other side of the concrete barrier. Each screen support is anchored to the respective concrete component by utilizing a downwardly extending sleeve with anexpandable bottom portion, a wedge within the bottom portion, and a threaded bolt member which is adapted to draw the wedge upwardly, thus forcing the bottom portion of the sleeve member outwardly against the sides of the well.
