A hillside, multistory, multiple dwelling unit building (20) includes at least two vertically stacked dwelling units (22, 24) wherein the lower dwelling unit (22) has a ground level garage or vehicle parking space (46) with an entry opening in one direction and the other dwelling unit (24) has a garage or parking space (52) vertically stacked above the first garage and opening to a roadway (70) on a hill (26) adjacent to which the building is situated. The first dwelling unit (22) may have two living space levels (48, 50) above the garage level, the second level being at the same level as the sharing some interior space (52) with the garage of the upper dwelling unit. The upper dwelling unit (24) has two living space levels (54, 56) above its garage level. The building structure may be formed of reinforced concrete sidewalls and floors defining each level and formed as elongated "tunnels". The dwelling unit endwalls may be non-load bearing and have windows and balconies opening to the side of the building facing away from the hill. Separate entries to each of the vertically stacked dwelling units are provided. The first through the third levels may have a reinforced endwall contigous with the earthen hill to avoid the requirement of separate retaining walls.

Cet immeuble (20),constitué de plusieurs unités d'habitation, à flanc de coteau et à niveaux multiples, comprend au moins deux unités d'habitation superposées (22, 24), l'unité inférieure (22) possédant un garage ou un espace de parcage de véhicule (46) au niveau du sol avec une ouverture d'entrée dans un sens alors que l'autre unité d'habitation (24) possède un garage ou un espace de parcage (52) situé au dessus du premier et une ouverture donnant sur une voie d'accès (70) située sur le coteau (26) à coté duquel se trouve l'immeuble. La première unité d'habitation (22) peut être constituée de deux niveaux de surface habitable (48, 50) au-dessus du niveau garage, le second niveau étant à la même hauteur que le garage de l'unité d'habitation supérieure et partageant avec lui une partie de l'espace intérieur (52). L'unité d'habitation supérieure (24) possède deux niveaux d'espace habitable (54, 56) au-dessus de son niveau garage. La structure de l'immeuble peut être constituée de murs latéraux à renfort de béton et les planchers définissant chaque niveau, formés en "tunnels" allongés. Les murs d'extrémités de l'unité d'habitation peuvent être des surfaces non portantes et être pourvus de fenêtres ainsi que de balcons donnant du coté opposé au coteau. Des entrées distinctes sont prévues pour chaque unité d'habitation superposée. Le premier des trois niveaux peut être pourvu de mur d'extrémité renforcé adjacent au coteau en terre afin d'éviter d'avoir à recourir à des murs de soutènement séparés.
