The hinge pin extractor of the present invention is used for the removal of a hinge pin from the barrel of a hinge on a hanging door. The hinge pin extractor comprises an elongate body, a peg extending perpendicular to one end of the elongate body, and a notch positioned on the elongate body at the end opposing the peg. To remove the hinge pin, the peg is inserted into the lower end of the hinge barrel to displace the hinge pin upwardly. The notched end may then be applied to extract a hinge pin from the upper end of the hinge barrel. The notched end may also taper in thickness to pry hinge pins from the hinge barrel, for example, to promote removal of decorative hinge pins from the lower end of a hinge barrel. The device prevents damage to a door or to the trim surrounding a door when extracting a hinge pin and permits removal of hinge pins in awkward locations.
