ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a hinged joint for a cover of a sliding gate assembly at the outlet of a metallurgical vessel. The cover supports a refractory slide plate and is supported on a gate housing by a hinge pin mounted transversely to the direction of displacement of the slide plate, means being provided for freely adjusting the sliding surfaces of the slide plate and other stationarily arranged refractory plates when the gate is clamped together; the cover having an auxiliary hinge pin mounted parallel to the hinge pin supported on the gate housing and linked to the latter by means of a linking arrangement which is free of play.
