The hitch receiver includes first and second mounting brackets, a cross member interconnecting the mounting brackets and a hitch box that is carried by the cross member for receiving a draw bar. The hitch receiver is characterized by the mounting brackets each including a mounting skirt having an integral depending flange that reinforces the mounting skirt and provides additional strength.
