ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is provided a document handler for use in copying machines. The document handler includes a transport belt for the document that engages the document on a document- receiving surface, the belt being driven to convey a document across the surface. Supporting the belt intermediate document engaging zones thereof that are spaced apart in the direction of travel of the belt is a hitch having n base portion that defines a surface supporting the belt and sidewalls for guiding the belt. The belt-support surface of the hitch preferably has a smoothly curved convex profile, while the base portion of the hitch has a transversely extending channel in the belt- support surface that defines at least one cleaning edge for cleaning the surface of the belt that passes thereover.
