ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION This invention provides monoclonal antibodies characterized as being specific for an epitope on a HIV glycoprotein having a molecular weight of about 120,000 daltons (gp120), which recognize a carbohydrate portion of gp120 localized in the region from about amino acid 301 to about amino acid 358. The antibodies are further capable of substantially neutralizing the activity of human immunodeficiency viruses. The invention also provides hybridomas which produce such antibodies.
