The present invention discloses methods to screen chemicals for herbicidal activity using recombinantly produced enzymes having HMP-P kinase activity or TMP-PPase activity, and the use of thereby to identify herbicidal chemicals to suppress the growth of undesired vegetation. Furthermore, the present invention provides methods for the development of herbicide tolerance in plants, plant tissues, plant seeds, and plant cells using genes encoding enzymes having HMP-P kinase activity or TMP-PPase activity, and methods of using such transgenic plants to selectively suppress weed growth in crop fields.
L'invention concerne des procédés servant à cribler des agents chimiques afin de déterminer leur activité herbicide au moyen d'enzymes de recombinaison possédant une activité de HMP-P kinase ou de TMP-PPase, ainsi que leur utilisation afin d'identifier des agents chimiques herbicides permettant de supprimer la croissance d'une végétation indésirable. Elle concerne, de plus, des procédés servant à développer la tolérance aux herbicides de plantes, de tissus de plantes, de semences de plantes et de cellules de plantes au moyen de gènes codant des enzymes possédant une activité de HMP-P kinase ou de TMP-PPase et des procédés de mise en application de ces plantes transgéniques afin de supprimer de façon sélective la croissance de mauvaises herbes dans des champs cultivés.
