An improved hockey stick and hockey blade providing improved control and handling of a hockey puck or hockey ball is disclosed. Also, a method of making the hockey blade and hockey stick is disclosed. The improved handling and control of the hockey puck and hockey stick results from the blade surface which strikes the hockey puck or hockey blade having a rough texture. The rough texture increases the friction between the blade of the hockey stick and the hockey puck or hockey ball thereby increasing or decreasing the spin and improving the user's control over the trajectory of the hockey puck or hockey ball. The rough texture is preferably selected from a group consisting of knife-like edges, depressions, grooves, knurls, bumps or combinations thereof.
