A goaltender's blocker has a blocking pad that can slide and pivot relative to and in the same plane as the back of the padded glove that supports it and holds the goal-tender's stick. One result of this construction is to allow the blocking pad to slide upwardly and pivot axially relative to the padded glove when the bottom edge or the outside bottom corner of the blocking pad comes in contact with the playing surface, thus allowing a full and unobstructed contact between the stick and the playing surface in a way that makes it easier for the goaltender to perform the paddle-down maneuver in a comfortable, ergonomically correct and technically sound manner.
