This invention is comprised of a hockey skate boot with no 'upper' built on the boot above the ankle. The skate boot is designed to allow full flexibility of the ankle, by taking away the Achilles tendon guard. This vital part of a skaters protection can be built onto the backside of a shin guard. This allows the skater to completely move their ankle in any manner during a skating stride. This adds a deftness to play. The boot can be built using existing construction that has already met the demands of the most competitive of professional and Olympian situations. The comfort for the foot, the ankle support, protection from pucks, and heel anchor systems are all excellent in the existing hockey skate boots. It is simply that the Achilles tendon guard restricts ankle flexion in a very critical area of a hockey stride. The stride energy strike into the ice at the end of the stride push is severely compromised by the inability of the ankle to rotate through its natural range of motion. The utility of removing the Achilles tendon guard from the hockey skate boot, and moving it to the shin guard, helps the player to get all his energy into the ice. It brings creativity back into the game by adding maneuverability to the skaters play. This addition to the players arsenal, increases their overall skating capacity, in particular provides a whole new meaning to stopping, starting, forward, backward, turning, pivoting, sideways, back and forth in every which way, on a pair of hockey skates. As will be appreciated by those skilled in the art, it is to be understood that the above descriptions are illustrative of the various embodiments of the present invention, but not limiting thereof, it being possible to make various modifications without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention.
