A multiple level building comprising an elevator system in which an elevator car moves between floors within an elevator hoistway which contains a door providing access to the hoistway from a corridor at each floor. Seal structures are provided between the hoistway door and a hoistway wall structure to substantially prevent smoke and gas from passing into or out of the hoistway, and to block water from entering the hoistway. A transverse seal structure has a wall-mounted portion with an angled seal engagement surface relative to the hoistway wall, and a door portion with an angled seal mating surface facing toward the hoistway wall and spaced apart from the seal engaging surface of the wall-mounted portion. A seal is provided between the seal engagement surface and the seal mating surface to seal the transverse space therebetween to prevent smoke and gas to pass therethrough in the event of a fire when the hoistway doors are in the closed position.
L'invention concerne un immeuble multiniveaux comportant un système d'ascenseur dans lequel une cabine d'ascenseur se déplace entre des étages au sein d'une cage d'ascenseur renfermant une porte donnant accès à ladite cage depuis un couloir à chaque étage. Des structures d'étanchéité sont ménagées entre la porte palière et une structure de paroi de la cage en vue d'empêcher sensiblement la fumée et le gaz de s'insinuer dans ou hors de la cage, et d'interdire l'entrée de l'eau dans cette dernière. Une structure d'étanchéité transversale présente une portion montée sur la paroi et pourvue d'une surface de contact étanche inclinée par rapport à la paroi de la cage, et une portion porte dotée d'une surface de contact antagoniste étanche inclinée située en regard de la paroi de la cage et espacée de la surface de contact étanche de la portion montée sur la paroi. Un joint est ménagé entre la surface de contact étanche et la surface de contact antagoniste étanche en vue d'étanchéifier l'espace transversal intermédiaire pour empêcher la fumée et le gaz de s'y insinuer en cas d'incendie lorsque les portes palières sont en position fermée.
