ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A holder for bird food packed in a portion container has a horizontally extending reception portion with an opening forming a receptacle for the portion container. In one embodiment the holder is provided with a gripping portion connected to the reception portion, a first notch located between and extending at a right angle to the reception portion and the gripping portion and an end flange fixed to the reception portion at a right angle adjacent to the notch. The end of the flange remote from the plate is provided with a second notch oriented below the first notch. In another embodiment, a flange is fixed in a downwardly projecting manner and at a right angle to the reception portion. A flexible locking plate is fixed to the flange and extends away from the reception portion in the longitudinal direction thereof. The locking plate slopes upwards over and beyond the upper edge of the reception portion and, close to its highest point, has a first, transversely directed notch and a web fixed at right angles to the flange and extending away from the reception portion in the longitudinal direction thereof. The lower edge of the web has second notches oriented below the first notch.
