An improved holder for electrically heated curling irons provides numerous safety features over earlier curling iron holders. The curling iron retainer portion is of a generally frustoconical or tapered cylinder shape and has an open upper end for the insertion of a curling iron therein and a substantially closed lower end in order to prevent inadvertent contact with the heating element of the iron. The lower end of the retainer portion may also include a drain and ventilation passage, which provides for air flow through the curling iron retainer portion to promote more rapid cooling of a heated iron after use. The substantial wall thickness of the curling iron retainer portion, as well as decorative reliefs formed in the walls, provide substantial strength as well as insulation and heat absorption properties. The holder further includes a base portion providing a structurally secure mounting due to the triangulation of the mounting holes, which base portion also provides for a separate cord retainer portion. The entire holder is preferably monolithically formed of a ceramic material for relatively low cost and ease of manufacture, as well as the excellent thermal insulation properties thus provided.
