A b s t r a c t An instrument for measuring internal distances, such as pipe diameters comprises a rod (11) displaceable in a casing (1) provided with pivotably journalled limbs (3). One end of the rod (11) is provided with a cam member (14) insertable between the limbs (3). When the rod (11) is displaced in one direction in relation to the casing (1), the cam member (14) will turn the limbs (3) outwards until the ends of the limbs (3) encounter the internal measuring points. The measured value is read by means of grading (12) on the rod (11) and a scale (8) arranged beside a window (7) in the casing (1), in which the grading (12) on the rod (11) is visible, the rod (11) extends all through the casing (1). An abutment (9), which protrudes radially from the casing (1) is displaceable along the casing and is removably fixed to the casing in desired positions to define desired diameter measurement locations relative to the pipe end.
