ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention provides building blocks with cavities which are open at least on one side and are filled with a plastic filler that consists of numerous particles surface bonded together in such a way as to leave channels for the passage of gases therebetween. In order to produce these blocks the cavities of the blocks are filled with a non-compacted fill of particles of a thermoplastic, e.g. styrene foam, after which a minimum of one injector is introduced into the fill, whereupon first of all hot gas, e.g., steam, is introduced until the particles are sufficiently sintered, and then cold air is injected so as to bring about a rapid cooling effect. A synchronized system for carrying out the process consists of a supply stage for the blocks that are to be processed, a filling station and a sintering station. It is preferred that all the moving parts in the system be connected by means of couplings.
