ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed are a process and apparatus for producing an identification element having an integral holographic recording as part thereof. The identification element is formed using an interference pattern produced by combining an object beam and a reference laser beam. The object beam is produced by reflection of information on the identification element. The interference pattern is recorded on light sensitive material which is firmly and durably combined with the identification element. Unlike prior arrangements, the hologram (interference pattern) is not produced separately and then united with the card, which could result in errors or damage to the hologram.
