ABSTRACT Dextransucrase synthesis of dextran from sucrose is inhibited by a novel homocitric acid oligoriboside derivative and its nontoxic salts. The new derivative is obtained by fermentation of certain Streptomyces sp. such as Streptomyces sp. MF 980-CFl (FERM-P5430; ATCC 31820) and is useful in the prevention of dental caries.
