A method and apparatus for rapidly hydrating a hydratable gel comprising the steps of introducing a predetermined amount of the gel into a stream of hydrating fluid, pumping the stream into a high shear rate mixer having a shear rate of at least 25,000 s-1, and directing the hydrated fluid away from the mixer means for treatment of a subterranean formation.

Méthode et appareil pour hydrater rapidement un gel hydratable comprenant les étapes suivantes : introduire une quantité prédéterminée du gel dans un courant de fluide hydratant, pomper le courant dans un mélangeur à vitesse de cisaillement élevée, dont la vitesse de cisaillement est d'au moins 25 000 s-1, et détourner le fluide hydraté du moyen de mélange pour le traitement d'une formation souterraine.
