A catalyst particularly useful in the preparation of unsaturated esters such as the reaction of ethylene, oxygen and acetic acid in a vapor phase to form vinyl acetate. The catalyst comprises a honeycomb carrier coated with silica and containing palladium and gold throughout the silica coat. Such catalysts show reduced pressure drop and a high space time yield for vinyl acetate.

Cette invention se rapporte à un catalyseur particulièrement utile dans la préparation d'esters insaturés, par exemple par la réaction d'éthylène, d'oxygène et d'acide acétique en phase vapeur, afin de former de l'acétate de vinyle. Ce catalyseur est constitué par un support en nid d'abeilles recouvert de silice et contenant du palladium et de l'or dans toute la couche de revêtement en silice. De tels catalyseurs se caractérisent par une chute de pression réduite et par un rendement espace-temps élevé pour l'acétate de vinyle.
