HONING UNUSUAL SHAPES ABSTRACT An Apparatus for abrading and finishing the inner surface of an unusual shape, for example the inner ring of a gerotor device, with a tool holder adapted to carry honing stones for movement along the part surface and driven by a mating part engaging a stationary ring mounted inside the assembly and affixed to the drive spindle housing. Said stationary ring having an identical shape as the workpiece being machined to guide and synchronize the tool holder in an eccentric path during the abrading operation and the workpiece and stationary ring orientated to maintain the synchronous relationship. The apparatus while being rotated is also reciprocated transversely to the workpiece surface causing the stones to move in a helical path.
