A new method for fabricating smooth interior walls for steel boxcars. This boxcar side is constructed using a horizontal offset seam joined by continuous groove weld. There are no vertical butt welds in the side assembly. These butt welds and the reinforcement associated with such welds has traditionally meant potential damage to sensitive cargo like newsprint rolls.
