ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is a permanently attachable fitting adapted to be secured to the end of hose or tubing for the conveyance of fluids by compressing the hose or tubing wall within an annular space provided between a shell and nipple of the fitting by a process, such as swaging, that both contracts the shell radially inwardly against the hose or tubing wall and exerts a longitudinal compressible force upon the shell. The shell wall has one or more annular bridges provided by annular grooves that are caused to buckle during the contraction process so as to reduce the elongation of the shell and reduce the relative longitudinal movement between the shell and the nipple and thereby improve the integrity of the hose or tubing wall within the fitting by reducing the amount of stretch and shear stresses imposed thereupon.
