A winding device for winding an elongated and substantially flexible object such as a fire hose including a base member defining a pair of generally opposed mounting surfaces. The base member is provided with an attachment component for allowing pivotal attachment to either a vertical or an horizontal surface. A spool is rotatably mounted on the base member for supporting the object and coiling the latter. The spool is selectively attachable to either one of the mounting surfaces. A rotating mechanism is releasably attached to the spool. A cleaning component including both a wetting section for wetting the object and a scrapping section for scrapping debris away from of the object as the latter is being coiled is releasably mounted to the base member. The scrapping section includes a scrapping blade positioned so that its scrapping edge contacts the object as the latter slides across the wetting section. A deflecting component is further provided. The deflecting component is adapted to deflect away from a predetermined area liquids and particles projected by centrifugal force from the object being coiled so as to prevent splashing of the intended user. A winding reel adapted to be releasably mounted to the spool is optionally provided. The winding reel includes a spool extending between a pair of reel discs. The reel discs are provided with tine receiving apertures for releasably and slidably receiving tines part of the spool so as to allow mounting of the reel on the spool.
