A B S T R A C T A hot blast-furnace-lining repair apparatus comprises a cantilevered elongate member, a center pole, a rotation transmission mechanism, drive units to extend and rotate the center pole, and a castable refractory spray nozzle. When positioned near the top of a blast furnace to be repaired, the elongate member can move back and forth across the diameter of the furnace, carrying the drive units to extend and rotate the center pole thereon. The center pole, which can be extended and contracted as desired, is rotatably attached to the front part of the elongate member. The nozzle is tiltably attached to the lower end of the center pole. The driving shaft of the drive unit to rotate the center pole and the driven shaft coupled to the center pole can be connected and disconnected as desired. In making repairs, the front part of the elongate member is inserted horizontally through an opening provided in the furnace wall near its top. By advancing the elongate member, the center pole connected to it is positioned at the center of the furnace. The rotary driving shaft, now in the vertical position, is operatably coupled to the driven shaft. With the apparatus thus set in the furnace, castable refractory is supplied from outside the furnace to the nozzle, while rotating the center pole, for application on the damaged part of the furnace lining.
