A hot gas soldering system is disclosed in which slotted, usually copper soldering tips are permitted to idle at a relatively low temperature and then beexceedingly quickly brought up to a predetermined desired working temperature by immersing it into a high energy flow of hot gas. The tip may be kept at even lower idle temperatures by supporting it at the end of then walled thermally resistive stainless steel tube through which the hot gas flows only when it is desired to convey heat to the working tip.
