ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A dense polycrystalline silicon nitride body is produced by hot-pressing a particulate mixture of silicon nitride and a magnesium silicide additive. The hot-pressed silicon nitride body is useful in structural applications such as components for gas turbines. Silicon nitride is a choice material for such applications because of its good high temperature strength and creep resistance, low thermal expansion coefficient and excellent oxidation resistance.
