In one aspect of the invention there is provided a system for hot tapping, comprising a hot tap machine having a shaft, a hole saw, a riser pipe, a valve, a blow out preventor capable of reducing its inside diameter to a smaller diameter, a tubular extension and a plurality of extension rods, each rod having a lock-out shoulder with a diameter greater than said smaller diameter and each suitable for connecting between the shaft of the hot tap machine, another extension rod or the hole saw. Apparatus and method aspects are also provided. The invention also provides a removable closure system comprising a tubular member having an internal surface providing a collet shoulder and a plug stopping shoulder, a plug assembly, having a plug and a collet with fingers. The assembly is positioned within the tubular member so that collet engages the collet shoulder.
