ABSTRACT A portable hour meter for the monitoring of an engine utilizing a spark type ignition system and having a spark plug lead wire includes an enclosed meter circuit including a meter unit with a display, a lead wire adapted to be coiled around the spark plug lead wire and an SCR connected between the meter unit and the lead wire so that electrical impulses traveling through the spark plug wire are received by the lead wire and converted into signals which are passed through the SCR to the meter unit to register engine operational time.
