A housing frame preferably formable as a single integral unit and being capable of use as a primary structural portion of a housing suitable for multiple exit sign configurations, the several exit sign configurations of the invention being either intended for emergency or non-emergency operation and further being intended for use with different light sources and power sources. The housing frame of the invention includes structural features which allow mounting of any one of a variety of light sources and mounting of those components necessary for operation of the light sources within a single housing, which housing is of a size reduced in volume relative to most presently available signs. Structural features of the frame also include in at least certain embodiments a printed circuit board comprising a platform and having essentially all circuit components including light emitting diode light sources and a battery for operation of the light sources in an emergency mode mounted on said printed circuit board. The printed circuit board or platform is mounted immediately above a floor of the housing frame by a support structure comprising an irregular vertical wall extending upwardly from the floor of the housing frame. The frame and associated plates forming the housing of the invention are preferably formed from polymeric material of a thickness less than that of prior "plastic" housings, the strength and rigidity necessary to proper operation of the housing being provided by a functionally interrelated combination of structural elements which allows a substantial reduction in material used for formation of the housing.
La présente invention a pour objet un boîtier formant un ensemble intégré pouvant servir de structure-support et de logement pour de multiples configurations d'indicateurs de sortie, ces multiples configurations d'indicateurs de sortie incluant des fins de signalisation d'urgence et autres, et se prêtant à utilisation avec différents types de sources lumineuses et de sources d'énergie. Le boîtier faisant l'objet de la présente invention comporte des caractéristiques structurales qui permettent le montage de diverses sources lumineuses de même que le montage des composants connexes nécessaires à l'intérieur d'un même boîtier, ce boîtier étant néanmoins de dimensions réduites par rapport aux dimensions des autres indicateurs couramment utilisés. Les caractéristiques structurales du boîtier incluent, dans certaines versions de l'invention du moins, une plaquette de circuits imprimés, ou plate-forme, regroupant essentiellement tous les circuits nécessaires aux sources d'éclairage à diodes électroluminescentes de même qu'une batterie montée sur la plaquette de circuits imprimés pour l'alimentation des sources d'éclairage en mode d'urgence. La plaquette de circuits imprimés, ou plate-forme, est montée directement au-dessus d'un plancher du boîtier par une structure de support comportant une paroi verticale irrégulière se prolongeant verticalement depuis le plancher du boîtier. Le boîtier de même que les plaques faisant partie de l'ensemble de boîtier proposé dans cette invention sont de préférence fabriqués de polymère d'une épaisseur inférieure à celle des boîtiers en plastique utilisés jusqu'à ce jour; les composantes possèdent la résistance et la rigidité nécessaires pour assurer le bon fonctionnement du boîtier; l'utilisation d'éléments structuraux interchangeables et se prêtant à diverses combinaisons confère au boîtier une fonctionnalité accrue et entraîne une importante économie quant aux matériaux utilisés dans la fabrication du boîtier.
