A digital signal processing algorithm to cancel howling in a telephone circuit, the telephone circuit being characterized by a receive path and a transmit path in an effective closed loop configuration. The algorithm monitors input samples taken from the receive path and, if a howling signal is detected, controlled amounts of attenuation are introduced to the loop until howling is cancelled. In a preferred embodiment a prediction logic is included in the algorithm to verify the howling signal.

Algorithme de traitement numérique des signaux servant à supprimer le sifflement dans un circuit téléphonique, ce circuit étant caractérisé par un trajet de réception et un trajet d'émission dans une configuration effective de boucle fermée. L'algorithme surveille des échantillons captés dans le trajet de réception et, si un signal de sifflement est détecté, il applique un degré contrôlé d'atténuation à la boucle jusqu'à ce que le sifflement soit supprimé. Dans une réalisation préférée, un module logique de prévision est inclus dans l'algorithme afin de vérifier le signal de sifflement.
