This invention is an amusement ride for catapulting a person enclosed with a capsule (7) into the air. The ride comprises a siege type catapult (30) and a releasable connected capsule (7). In the launch position a release mechanism (31) is triggered by the operator, and the rider (24) is catapulted into the air at a physiologically safe rate of acceleration along a predictable free flight arc. When an acceptable elevation is reached, the rider is separated from the capsule (7) and gently brought back to earth using an automatically deploying parachute or similar device. An alternate embodiment envisions the use of a similar device to project a conveyance vehicle along a horizontal track similar to a stone skipping across the water.
L'invention concerne un manège permettant de catapulter en l'air une personne enfermée dans une capsule (7). Ce manège comprend une catapulte à siège (30) et une capsule (7) raccordée de façon libérable. En position de lancement, un mécanisme de libération (31) est déclenché par l'opérateur, et l'utilisateur (24) est catapulté en l'air avec un taux d'accélération physiologiquement acceptable, le long d'un arc de vol libre prévisible.
