The present invention provides a fingerprint sequence which is specific and selective for trace amine associated receptors (TAAR) forming a subfamily of G protein coupled receptors. The invention also provides the novel human polypeptides identified as members of this family, nucleic acids encoding said polypeptides, and vectors and host cells comprising the novel family members. In addition, the invention provides methods of identifying TAARs.
