A method and apparatus of hiding identification data (12) in visual media. When image or video data is received, frequency masking (14) is performed to divide the image or video data into blocks of smooth regions and blocks of non- smooth regions and to obtain preliminary just-noticeable-difference. Edge detection is performed to divide the non-smooth region of the image or video data into texture blocks and edge blocks (16). The image or video data is then adjusted by applying different strength of watermark in association with the type of each block.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil destiné à masquer des données d'identification (12) dans les médias visuels. Lorsque les données d'image ou vidéo est reçues, le masquage de fréquence (14) est mis en oeuvre afin de diviser les données d'image ou vidéo en blocs de régions lisses et en blocs de régions non-lisses ; et afin d'obtenir une première différence à peine perceptible. Une détection des contours est effectuée pour diviser la région non-lisse des données d'image ou vidéo en blocs de texture et en blocs des contours (16). Les données d'image ou vidéo sont par la suite réglées par application de différentes intensités de filigrane en fonction du type de chaque bloc.
