ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A method is provided for humidifying a gas, for example air, which is to be introduced into a heat exchanger, for example a blast furnace stove. The method comprises introducing into an enclosure, for example the chamber of a compressor, a stream of the gas and a stream of water in the form of atomised particles, the flow rate, temperature and pressure of the gas and the water particles within the enclosure being such that the gas leaving the enclosure contains water vapour. The humidified gas may then be introduced into the heat exchanger.
