An appliance for supporting a hunter's rifle, leaving his hands free and transferring the weight of the rifle to his shoulder or shoulders. The appliance can include a single strap or a pair of crossed straps that engage a receptacle for the rifle barrel. The straps are adjusted such that the receptacle assumes a position adjacent the users's chest. The user then places the barrel of the rifle in the receptacle and engages the stock under his shoulder.
